Twiddle and their fans nearly took over Boulder during their 2-night run at the Boulder Theater August 12th. With support from the Kitchen Dwellers and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, both nights were completely sold out! Avid concert goers suggest never missing night two of a show. They were certainly right about that after witnessing the strong chemistry between these groups. Pigeons opening up for Twiddle was in my opinion, the perfect match.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are an electro-funk band out of Baltimore, and they definitely know how to put on a good performance. The lead singer keeps the audience intrigued by his crazy face gestures and dance moves. It really was the most entertaining set I’ve seen in a very long time. The band played their song “Julia” off their 2014 album Psychology, into their cover of the famous Mario theme song, the original linked here, and back into “Julia.” Those ten minutes just might’ve been the peak of my night.
As per usual, Twiddle comes out and serenades the crowd with their soul-healing music. The four performed their famous “Jamflowman,” and let it jam out for about 10 minutes longer than usual-- it was amazing. They also played tracks off their newest album Plump 2. Twiddle preformed “Rickey Snickle,” and “Frankenfoote,” from their newest album, each involving infamous characters made up by the band. Twiddle closed out their set with a personal favorite, “Lost in the Cold.” People sang, cried, and danced their butts off.
For the third set of the night, Pigeons and Twiddle all jammed on stage together! They all played songs from each of the bands, sounding better than one could ever imagine. Mamunes the Faun, Apples, FU, and even a Ghostbusters cover were all performed by the entire crew. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will be back October 6 at the Boulder Theater! Sadly, Twiddle won’t tour back in Colorado during their fall or spring tour dates.
