Crave the Sound: How was the last show you played with Illenium in Denver?
Covex: It was amazing. There were a lot of people there that night. It was cool opening for someone as big as Illenium.
How has growing up in the Denver/Boulder music scene shaped you as an artist?
Being raised in Boulder, I was around a lot of really talented musicians, especially in high school, and they taught me a lot about composition in general. I worked a lot with local producers like Frequent and Next To Blue, and they’ve really shaped my sound as an artist.
Living in Denver during school has really shaped my music business side of things. Meeting a lot of people down there has really influenced the way I think about my own music as well.
What are you majoring in again?
Recording Arts at CU Denver.
What are your goals for the next year as an artist?
I would say to release two new EPs. Anna Scholfield and I are making another EP together, and will hopefully do a small tour around Denver. I would really like to play Global Dance Festival this year.
If you could play any venue in Denver, which would it be?
Definitely Red Rocks. And then the Fillmore would be cool.
Was there ever a show that specifically inspired you as an artist?
Definitely. Freshman year of High School I went to Skrillex, and I had no idea what Djing or production was at that time. I saw his set and at the end of it, my life was just completely changed. Ever since then I got really into production and worked my ass off on that, and then started DJing after that.
What was it like to perform at Decadence?
It was a great experience. It was pretty surreal rolling up to the convention center, because there were strobe lights everywhere, and I never thought I would be playing something like that four years ago. The crew and staff and everyone there were friendly, they helped me set up immediately when I got there. The stage and lighting was immaculate. I had never seen something like that before.
Who are some artists that are inspiring you right now?
One artist that really inspires me is Sorrow who makes chill/downtempo music, the same kind of stuff that I've been making, also Frequent and Next to Blue, and of course Illenium. He's showing that he's not going to stop now or ever. He's really just a game changer right now, especially in Colorado. He just blew up in a second. It's crazy.
