Flagship is a rock band based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, and is composed of members Drake Margolnick and Michael Finster.
Just a couple weeks ago, the band released their EP Faded. The dance-worthy, radio-blasting single off that EP, “I Want You” is already getting air play on stations like Sirius XM, and could very well be the single to skyrocket Flagship’s success.
Now on a national tour with Good Old War, Flagship is turning strangers into fans with their passionate and hard-hitting performances every night.
Just before their show at the Bluebird Theater in Denver, lead singer, Drake, hung out with us and answered a few questions about the band.
Tell us a little history about the band. When did you meet, and when did you start playing together?
Me and Michael started playing together a little over 4 years ago, and now we are happily, musically married.
What song would you say represents you as a band the best?
I guess that would be, “Are You Calling”. That’s a Flagship song.
What is your favorite song to perform live?
Right now, probably our new single “I Want You”.
What’s your favorite venue that you have ever performed at?
So far, it’s probably The National in Richmond.
What would be your ideal venue to play at?
Have you ever been to a show that really inspired you as a musician?
I wasn’t at it, but the U2 Rattle and Hum documentary, that’s what inspired me to start making music in a serious way. And then, the best show I probably ever went to was Radiohead. I love Radiohead.
What music have you been listening to lately?
My new producer showed me this older guy who’s been around forever, Scott Walker. And as far as newer stuff -- War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, and Phantogram.
What’s your favorite social media?
I’d say Instagram, but Michael loves twitter the best.
